A small, brand new kitten was discovered by itself on a road in Pasadena, California. The little cat was shivering and in urgent need of assistance.
Hannah Shaw, also known as Kitten Lady, was contacted by feline rescuer Chris in Los Angeles about a little orphan kitten in need. The kitten was found within hours of being born, cold and unresponsive. Chris quickly took action, using a heating pad to warm up the tiny creature, who slowly started to show signs of life after about 10 minutes.
Realizing that the newborn kitten wouldn’t survive the night without proper care, Chris reached out to Hannah Shaw for help. Without hesitation, Hannah and her partner Sonja Lueschen loaded up their car with supplies and hit the road to rescue the helpless kitten. They were prepared for anything, ready to provide emergency feedings along the way.
The dynamic duo made their way to Los Angeles to pick up the little orphan, determined to give her the best possible chance at survival. The kitten was in good hands with Hannah and Sonja, who were committed to providing her with the love and care she needed to thrive.
After the kitten was born, Hannah Shaw received it from Chris and immediately placed it on a warm surface. She carefully fed the tiny feline, giving her tiny drops of formula.
According to Hannah, newborn kittens are unable to regulate their own body temperature and lack a gag reflex. They are blind and deaf at this stage, relying solely on their instinct to seek warmth. Hannah shared this information in a video on YouTube.
Andrew Marttila discovered a calico covered in grime and dirt. After a careful cleaning, she was carefully placed in an incubator and fed every hour and a half throughout the night. Her rescuers decided to name her Rosalita. Despite surviving her first fragile night, Rosalita had trouble eating due to her small size of just 82 grams. She required additional assistance to ensure she received the necessary nutrients for her survival.
According to Hannah Shaw, the kitten lost four grams overnight, so she began tube feeding. With guidance from a skilled caregiver, technician, or veterinarian, she was able to provide the necessary care. Over the next day, the kitten was fed diluted formula every two hours. Thanks to this routine, Rosalita started gaining weight and developing well, eventually mastering the art of suckling on her own.
Hannah Shaw knew that Rosalita was on the path to a bright future when she saw her content and well-fed. She emphasized the importance of providing orphaned kittens like Rosalita with a loving home to ensure their survival. Hannah urged people to make an effort to locate the mother cat and utilize TNR methods to help control the cat population in their area.
According to Hannah Shaw, neonatal orphan kittens face the highest risk in shelters due to the specialized care they need. She believes that their future depends on the community’s willingness to step up and care for them. Shaw is confident that this crisis can be overcome if more people understand the importance of their compassion and are willing to provide the necessary care. For instance, Rosalita managed to double her weight within just 10 days of birth, showing the positive impact of proper care and support.
Hannah Shaw, the calico kitten, recently hit a new achievement as she finally opened her eyes for the first time at just 10 days old.
Wake up everyone! Hannah Shaw, Rosalita, a two-week-old kitten, is looking adorable with her chubby belly, cute pink toe beans, and beautiful tricolored face. Despite starting off cold and dirty, Rosalita is now embracing the world with confidence. “I can’t wait to see her grow and thrive.”
